Sony Creator Event at Red Rocks

Got there later than I should have. The smoke from the Nebraska fires had already started rolling in. I still got what I needed.

Red Rocks amphitheatre with smoke from Nebraska fires

I went out to the Sony creator event at Red Rocks and got there later than I should have. It felt like the earlier windows, around 11 or 1, were probably the peak. Better weather, more people. By the time I got there, the smoke from the Nebraska fires had started to roll in across Colorado.

I still got what I needed.

Got my hands on some of the G lenses and a few of the cameras. That was the main thing. Just being able to actually use the gear instead of just looking at it.

I talked with the guys from Mike's Camera for a bit and met a local photographer. Good conversations, just getting a feel for how people are shooting and what they're seeing out there.

I also spoke with the woman organizing the event. Asked her how Sony was feeling about the turnout and what their plans were. It's the first year they've done this, and she mentioned they were heading down to Albuquerque next. You could tell they're still figuring it out, but it's moving.

Didn't stay too long. I had to get over to the Summit FC rally, so this was more of a quick stop. Walked the area, grabbed some photos, a few clips, and took in the environment. Ran the Red Rocks steps real quick, got a little workout in, and took a couple shots of the stage and the landscape with the smoke sitting over everything.

REAX POV

Gear access matters more than gear specs.

Getting your hands on G lenses in the field is a different thing entirely from reading about them. You feel the weight, the focus pull, how it sits on the body. No spec sheet gives you that. That's why events like this have a real purpose beyond the marketing surface.

Sony's still figuring out the format — first year, Albuquerque next — but it's moving. That trajectory matters more than one imperfect rollout.
